Added capacity at Sappi to benefit Lenzing

25/07/2012

Austria-based Lenzing is intensifying its longstanding cooperation with South Africa-based paper and pulp supplier Sappi.

The agreement relates to the construction of new dissolving pulp capacities at Sappi, which will enable it to supply additional chemical cellulose for fibre production.

According to Lenzing, the pulp under contract is derived primarily from eucalyptus trees grown on certified plantations and will be sourced from Sappi's Southern Africa division mainly to produce Tencel fibre. The cellulosic fibre producer also sources pulp from Sappi to use in viscose production.

Sappi is the world’s largest manufacturer of dissolving pulp with an annual capacity of 800,000 tons, although this is currently being extended to 1.3 million tons.
