DyStar to launch second Carbon Footprint report
DyStar is set to launch its second Carbon Footprint
Report, which calculates the environmental impact of its global operations in
2011.
The company released its first annual carbon footprint
report in 2011 based on 2010 emissions data and also established 2010 as the
base year for measuring progress in the coming years.
In 2011, DyStar has managed to maintain a total carbon
footprint of 168,133 tons of CO2e on a comparative production level to 2010. The
carbon emissions intensity per ton of production remained unchanged at 1.7.
However, the carbon emission intensity per $ million turnover was reduced from
235 to 216 in 2011.
It plans to reduce its carbon intensity progressively
over the next eight years to achieve a 20% reduction by 2020 compared to the
2010 base year.
Harry Dobrowolski, CEO of DyStar, said: "Our challenge
now is to find ways to reduce emissions intensity. Essentially that would mean
greater energy efficiency across all our plants, laboratories and offices. This
will require creative solutions technology innovation, and commitment from
everyone in the company.
"The raw data behind the report provides additional insight into the sources and patterns of emissions across our operations. This will help us in managing our carbon footprint more effectively."
Commenting on its progress in 2011, Charu Jain, global
sustainability manager at DyStar, said: "We set ambitious targets and goals for
reducing emissions and started developing programs to make this happen.
"At the same time, we successfully completed the transfer of production to new manufacturing assets. As we move forward, optimising energy use is going to be crucial area to reduce emissions across our business."
