Bangladesh finds new markets for garment exports as Europe declines

16/08/2012
After four-months of declines, Bangladesh’s apparel exports recorded growth again in July, of 5.2% compared to the same month in 2011. Garment exports for the month had a value of just less than $2 billion, representing more than 80% of the country’s total export revenues.

According to new agency Reuters, the key to this change in the export fortunes of Bangladesh’s apparel exporters is to have found alternative markets for its clothes in the face of an ongoing downturn in demand in Europe. Brazil, India, Japan, Russia, South Africa and India are among the countries that exporters have been looking to.
