Mr Bierman has more than 20 years of retail experience, including an extensive background in the footwear industry. He comes to Finish Line after seven years with ecommerce company Demandware, where he most recently served as senior director of global strategic solutions.
“Harvey’s appointment is an important step towards driving long-term growth for Finish Line through aggressive expansion of our digital business,” said Chris Ladd, Finish Line's executive vice-president and chief digital officer.
The company announced three other top-level hires this month: Amber Vanes as vice-president of planning and allocation, Jeffrey Sherry as vice-president of business development and corporate strategy, and Greg Beidler as senior vice-president of store operations.
Finish Line reported strong first-quarter earnings: net sales increased 6.5% to $319 million and digital sales were up 28.1% compared with the year-ago period.
Its chief executive Glenn Lyon said: “While we are still in the early stages of a multi-year transformation, I have great confidence in this organisation’s ability to successfully deliver on our near-term promises while at the same time remain on a strategic course towards $2 billion in total company sales by fiscal 2016.”
Finish Line is headquartered in Indianapolis, US, and has 638 stores across the country.
