Mr Petrick leaves rival Rossignol Group, where he worked for three years based in Park City, US, to head back to his home town of Seattle.
The move brings Petrick full circle with K2 Sports, where he first worked as vice-president and general manager of the ski division from 1989 until 1997. He returned to K2 in 2000 as vice-president of global sales and remained there until 2009.
Petrick cited being closer to home as one reason for his departure from Rossignol. "I was living part-time at home for about three years. It was exciting and a great experience but there was family pressure to move back, too," he said.
K2 is in the middle of a multi-year investment plan and its president, Anthony De Rocco, said the hire fits with its growth plans.
“Tim knows our DNA intimately and the market climate very well and our retail partners know and trust him,” said Mr De Rocco. “He will be a strong leader to further the momentum to our next era of growth and success during K2 Sports’ most pivotal time of opportunity on a domestic and global level.”
