Supplier of performance-enhanced polyester fibres and filaments Advansa has announced that it is providing sponsorship for a high-speed mountaineering expedition to Cho Oyu in the Himalayas this autumn.

Under its ThermoCool brand of thermoregulating fibre, Advansa is sponsoring the attempt to climb to the peak and ski back down the sixth-tallest mountain in the world within 24 hours. A trio of extreme ski mountaineers (Benedikt Bo¨hm and Sebastian Haag from Germany and Greg Hill from the US) reached base camp in Nepal at the end of August and are preparing to attempt the feat when the conditions are right.

The group has set itself the goal of speed-climbing the 8,201-metre Cho Oyu in record time from base camp to the peak followed by a high-speed ski descent back down from the peak to base camp using no artificial oxygen and receiving no external support.

Jordi Lo´pez, branded apparel segment manager from Advansa, said in the build-up to the attempt: “This expedition is a great opportunity to associate the expertise of the mountaineers with the expertise in technology of our thermoregulating brand in such extreme climate conditions; highly functional but comfortable garments with high-end performance insulation are of the utmost importance.”
