Located in the Puxi commercial and retail district, adidas said its new Shanghai base represented “a milestone for our Route 2015 strategy”, the plan the company has to become China’s biggest sports brand.
By 2015, adidas aims to have a retail presence in 1,400 lower-tier cities, to strengthen its position in key categories such as football and running, and maintain annual double-digit sales growth. In the two years since the strategy was launched, the company has expanded its coverage to 350 new cities and currently operates more than 7,000 retail outlets across 900 cities in China.
Adidas-sponsored Los Angeles Lakers star Dwight Howard was guest of honour at the opening ceremony in Shanghai.
