Bangladesh aims for tenfold growth in apparel exports to China
03/09/2012
Mohammad Shafiul Islam, president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, told a news conference: "We hope to raise our garments export to China by 10 times to $1 billion by 2015."
The delegation toured factories during its three-day visit to assess the apparel and textile manufacturing industry, with a view to boosting trade.
Feng Dehu, vice-president of the China National Garment Association, said the factories were impressive.
Rising labour costs in China are making the industry there less competitive than it was previously, according to reports.
Garments made up $19 billion of Bangladesh's total exports of $24 billion in the year ending in June 2012, according to government data.
