First UK retail presence for Mountain Hardwear

Technical outdoor clothing and equipment brand Mountain Hardwear has chosen Glasgow as the first UK city in which to establish a retail presence. The company decided to open a 20 square-metre shop in shop, complete with climbing wall, in the outdoor shop run by retailer Cotswold in the West End Retail Park in Scotland’s biggest city.

To mark the opening on Saturday, September 8, Mountain Hardwear asked Tim Emmett, recently returned from a month-long expedition to the Trango Towers in the Himalayas tackling some of the largest cliffs and most challenging rock climbing in the world, to be on hand in the store to give some expert advice and to give a presentation on his experiences from The Untouchables project on Scotland’s steepest crag, Sron Ulladale.

Tim Emmett is an expert in ‘para-alpinism’, a style of climbing that involves free-fall from a summit wearing a wingsuit, as well as ice climbs.

Mountain Hardwear’s UK country manager, Anthony Emmet, said in the build-up to the opening: “We now have a dedicated UK operation for the first time, including a showroom in Kendal, and launching a retail presence is the natural next step. Glasgow is a fantastic gateway to some of the best outdoor adventures in the Scottish mountains and this location will be a great way to showcase our products.”
