Shoe patch harnesses technology from defence industry

UK-based Odegon Technologies worked with pharmacy Boots for 18 months to bring trial the technology and develop it for consumer sales.
Its director, Steve Rawlings, told sportstexiles.com: “I had worked on and off for nearly 30 years on the base material so we knew the potential. It was getting the correct formulation and application right for a product that would be suitable for over-the-counter sales.
“The base material is used primarily in the defence industry for CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear) suits and gas masks and where the highest possible protection against pathogens, poisonous gases and nerve agents is necessary. We could see the crossover into civilian use and it was just a case of using all the correct materials in a semblance of order and procedure for odour absorption and bacterial control.”
After successful trials, the product is available at Boots and will soon be rolled out to other high street retailers.
Odegon managing director Tom Rawlings added: “Our DeoSole shoe patch uses a unique nano-porous technology to neutralise odours at source, as well as providing continuous protection for shoes and feet.”
