International cotton fair to go ahead in Uzbek capital

The eighth International Cotton and Textile Fair will be held on October 17-18, 2012 in the capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent.

Uzbekistan’s ministry of external relations, investment and trade has said it expects leading international experts to travel to the city to take part in discussions on the prospects of the world cotton market, the supply of and demand for cotton textiles, the state of production and marketing of cotton in Uzbekistan, new technologies and competitiveness. The ministry also wants investment and participation of overseas investors in the development of the cotton and textile industry of Uzbekistan to be part of the programme.

The fair has been held annually in Uzbekistan since 2005. It is organised by the Uzbek government with the assistance of the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC).

Uzbekistan currently ranks as the fifth-largest producer of cotton in the world. It produced 4.6 million bales in 2011.
