Almost 40,000 visitors attended Dusseldorf’s TourNatur exhibition – proof that the hiking and trekking industry is booming, according to organisers.

“Hiking is the Germans’ favourite leisure activity,” said Helmut Winkler, director of TourNatur. “The exhibition, with its range of hiking tourism products, equipment sales and advisory services, is a perfect match for the needs of our target group.”

At the 10th anniversary show, which took place at the start of September, 275 exhibitors showed the latest hiking and trekking equipment, delivered lectures and introduced products.

Organiser Ralf Stefan Beppler noted that attendance figures for the lectures were significantly higher than last year. “TourNatur is a specialist exhibition. Many of the people coming here are active hikers themselves. Advice on the three-layer clothing system, water tightness and walking sticks were especially popular.”

Ute Dicks, executive director of the German Hiking Association (Deutscher Wanderverband), said: “The exhibition shows that hiking and trekking are a subject for the general public and that the products and services offered target all age groups.”
