Eastern Mountain Sports offers US-made recycled range

13/09/2012
Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) has entered into a partnership with SustainU, a producer of clothing using 100% recycled fabrics manufactured in the US, to offer its t-shirts through its stores and online.

"Less than 2% of the clothing sold in the US is actually made here. It is vital that we begin to bring this part of our economy back and the jobs that go with it," said Chris Yura, CEO of SustainU.

Since 1994, the American textile and apparel manufacturing sector has lost more than 1 million jobs, 65% of the industry, according to the US Bureau of Labour Statistics. It estimates an additional 25% of the jobs (53,7000) will be gone before 2020.

EMS CEO Will Manzer added: "Eastern Mountain Sports is committed to doing everything we can to preserve and protect our planet. That's why we're proud to partner with SustainU to reduce the environmental impact of our graphic t-shirts while supporting a small, American business."

EMS designs and sells outdoor gear, clothing, footwear and accessories with 69 stores in 12 US states.
