Japan looks beyond China for apparel imports

20/09/2012
According to a Japan Textiles Importers Association report, Japanese apparel imports in July increased by 2.4% in value compared to the same month in 2011, but decreased in volume by 4%.

The main reason for the decrease in volume was that Japanese importers brought into the country 8.9% fewer products from China during the month. The value of apparel imports from China also fell, by 3.1%.

Imports from Indonesia increased in value by 63.3%, while those from Bangladesh were 52.5% higher. The value of clothing coming in from Vietnam was up by 24.1%, while Myanmar registered growth of 19.1% and Thailand of 13.1%.
