Fila looks to fill adidas gap in India

Italian sportswear brand Fila has set out plans to open 60 stores in India in the next two years, capitalising on adidas’ decision to reduce its Reebok stores in the country.

"We definitely expect our business to benefit from the Reebok-Adidas controversy," GeneYoon, global chairman of Fila, told Reuters.

Fila has 40 stores in India and expects it to be a major growth driver along with China. It will also invest heavily to expand its wholesale business.

German brand Adidas, which bought US rival Reebok in 2005 for $3.8 billion, said in May it would cut the number of Reebok stores in India by a third.
