Nike granted injunction over adidas' Primeknit

US sports apparel giant Nike has been granted an interim injunction against adidas over the manufacture and distribution of the German-based company's Primeknit running shoes.

The knitted shoe is strikingly similar to Nike's flyknit, with both companies claiming they are the “first of a kind” and that they had been in development for three years before being launched this year.

Nike said in a statement: “Nike has a strong heritage of innovation and leadership in footwear design and development. Our patents are the foundation of that leadership and we protect them vigorously.”

The injunction prevents adidas selling the Primeknits in Germany, the only country they are currently distributed in, until a further court hearing.

Adidas said in a statement that it had only just received the court papers and was reviewing them, but as a general rule does not comment on pending litigation.
