One of surfing’s most attended competitions has lost its headline sponsors, Nike, Hurley and Converse.

The US Open of Surfing, held in California, attracts around one million spectators but the sportswear giants have pulled out to “focus on other initiatives”.

"In many ways, we achieved the goals we set for ourselves at the US Open. Now it's time to export the magic and invest it into other aspects of our business, like a renewed athlete focus and new and exciting ways of connecting with millions of kids," said Hurley CEO Bob Hurley to shop-eat-surf.com.
