New book delves into textile developments

A new book has been published that delves beneath the surface of technical textiles and explains the science behind some of the fabrics we use on a daily basis.

Co-authored by WSA’s technical editor, Sophie Bramel, and Patricia Poiré, High-tech Fabrics & Fashion covers a wide spectrum of topics including textiles that enhance performance and physical comfort (from energy-stimulating magnets to multi-layered garment systems) and the reality behind many so-called eco-textiles.

It divulges the secrets of fabrics that protect from nuisances such as bacteria, electromagnetic radiation and mosquitoes, and explains how micro-fibre wipes and no-iron shirts work.

“Our purpose was to explain in easy terms all the amazing things that modern textiles achieve, from improving athletes' performances to making everyday life simpler thanks to special finishes and new fibre geometries,” explained Ms Bramel.

The book is illustrated by the playful drawings of fashion designer Corinne Delemazure and is published in English and French.
