Kelheim Fibres excited by thermal insulation potential of new fibre

08/10/2012
Bavarian viscose specialities manufacturer Kelheim Fibres has announced that its research and development team has come up with “a completely new viscose fibre” named Umberto.

According to Kelheim, what sets Umberto apart is a series of varying letter-shaped cross sections in the fibre.

First tests have shown the benefits of Umberto for both nonwoven and textile applications. In textile applications, the different cross sections can create air pockets in yarn spun from the fibre, which can deliver a thermal insulation effect in garments. This effect is currently undergoing independent testing.
