A senior figure in Australian business, Dr Ian Pollard, has been appointed a director, chairman-elect, and chair of the audit committee of sports brand Billabong.

He will join the specialist surf apparel brand on October 24, after its annual general meeting.

With an extensive background in corporate finance, strategic investment and retail Dr Pollard has chaired several public company audit committees and was a member of the corporate governance implementation review group of the Australian stock exchange from 2003 to 2007.
