Triumph chooses Outlast for riding gear

Motorcycle specialist Triumph has launched a riding gear collection using Outlast’s Thermocules technology to regulate riders’ body temperatures.

It is incorporating phase change materials (PCM) by the US-based technology developer in its jackets, gloves and socks.

Leiah Lamplough, clothing development manager at the UK-based bike manufacturer, said: “If the body gets too cold or too hot the rider can lose concentration so it is essential he or she maintains a comfortable constant temperature. Although the look and design of the product is important, the function is equally essential.”

Triumph tested Outlast’s technology on a 2,300 mile round trip around Europe. Test rider Joseph Brooks commented: “Not many people these days make bike gear that is going to fall apart. What people need to know is if the kit is going to be good for specific use. Is it going to be comfortable? Is it going to leak? Am I going to be hot one minute and freezing once I get up to reasonable speeds?” He confirmed the technology worked in these areas, regulating his skin’s microclimate.

Thermocules technology uses PCM that absorb, store and release heat, are microencapsulated and enclosed in polymer shells.
