UK retailers join forces to celebrate Wool Week
15/10/2012
Harvey Nichols’ store in Knightsbridge, London, is being ‘wrapped in wool’ using fleece donated by Australian, New Zealand and UK farmers; Marks & Spencer is hosting a knitting installation in its Marble Arch store; and Lyle & Scott has constructed three ‘woollen’ putting greens at its store in Covent Garden.
M&S chairman Sir Stuart Rose said: "Wool is a fantastically versatile and durable material which has a number of unique properties making it ideal for use in a whole range of clothing and homeware from baby clothes to men's suits to carpets. This is a really important campaign and we are delighted to be a part of it."
Other retailers involved in the campaign include Harrods, Hobbs, Jigsaw and John Lewis.
After Wool Week in the UK, the campaign will travel to countries including the US, Korea and China, launching similar marketing drives. It involves farmers, textile manufacturers and designers and is funded by The Woolmark Company, The British Wool Marketing Board, the International Wool Textile Organisation, the National Sheep Association, Viking Wool of Norway and Council of New Zealand Wool Interests.
