Cotton Inc launches online ‘university’
17/10/2012
The online resource is positioned as part digital campus, part professional network and is aimed at nurturing the next generation of textile industry professionals through education and engagement.
The Cotton University ‘curriculum’ is divided into nine subjects: finishing and dyeing, garment manufacturing, printing, quality assurance, knitting, yarn manufacturing, denim manufacturing and weaving - each comprising coursework, with certificates for completion. The coursework is guided by experts from Cotton Inc and instructors from educational institutions and is supplemented with an online library that includes a textile encyclopaedia and videos.
Mark Messura, senior vice-president of global supply chain marketing at Cotton Inc, said: "The curriculum has obvious benefits for design and textile students, but it also provides a continuing education opportunity for professionals.”
The Cotton University can connect students with the cotton industry and professionals to one another through discussion groups, webinars and special online projects.
Cotton Inc is funded by US growers of upland cotton and importers of cotton and cotton textile products, and is managing the site on behalf of the Cotton Board Importer Support Programme.
