Clariant receives double honour for Advanced Denim technology

22/10/2012
Textile chemicals manufacturer Clariant has announced that its Advanced Denim technology has won two of the prestigious 2012 Innovation Awards organized by chemical industry information resource ICIS. ICIS Chemical Business magazine today revealed the winners of the 2012 edition of its awards.

Advanced Denim dyeing technology won recognition from the jury as "Innovation with Best Environmental Benefit", and was then judged as this year's overall winner.

The technology simplifies the finishing and dyeing of denim, which accounts for around 14% of global cotton production. Water consumption can be reduced by as much as 92%, while 63% of the usual cotton waste is avoided and around 30% can be saved in energy costs too compared to traditional denim processes, Clariant claims.

It has calculated that if Advanced Denim technology were adopted in the production of 25% of jeans worldwide, it would save 62 million cubic-metres of water a year. The technology would also eliminate the need to treat 8.3 million cubic-metres a year of wastewater, 220 million kilowatt hours of power would be saved and the carbon footprint of the industry and its users in carbon emissions reduced accordingly.
