Golfer McIlroy on verge of $250 million Nike deal

Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy is on the verge of signing a $250 million deal with sportswear giant Nike, according to reports in US and golfing press.

The sponsorship, which would last for 10 years, would see the world’s number one change from providers Titleist and Footjoy after his current contract expires at the end of the year.

Mr McIlroy, who is in Shanghai for the BMW Masters, brushed speculation aside today, saying he wished to concentrate on the game, but the deal has been reported as being “as good as done”.

Nike also sponsors Mr McIlroy’s rival Tiger Woods, and last week terminated its endorsement of disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong.
