New senior appointment at REI

Outdoor gear and apparel retailer REI has promoted Brian Unmacht to the position of chief operating officer, expanding his role to oversee retail, e-commerce, merchandising, private brands, IT and supply chain.

He
started as an REI store supervisor in 1986. In the years that followed, he rose through retail management to become a regional district manager, director of retail operations, and senior vice president of retail. In 2008, he was named executive vice-president for sales, service, store development and logistics.
 

“This well-deserved promotion recognises Brian’s many contributions to our success and growth over the course of his 26-year career at REI,” said chief executive, Sally Jewell. “Linking our operations under one leader helps ensure we prioritise our investments and deliver the high-quality products and legendary service that our customers expect.”

In addition to his role at REI, Brian Unmacht currently serves as first vice-chairman on the board of directors for the Outdoor Industry Association.
