Mild weather hurts Columbia Sportswear

For a company that specialises in outdoor clothing, this year’s mild conditions have not been ideal - Columbia Sportswear reported a 4.4% decline in profit and a 4% fall in sales for its third quarter.

Net income totalled $64.4 million against last year's $67.5 million, and sales reached $545 million, down from $566.8 million last year.

"We remain cautious," said Columbia chief executive Tim Boyle about the outlook. “We’ve made our bet and have inventories in place.”

The US-based company said it anticipates slow growth for the first half of next year, citing the fragile US recovery, continued uncertainty in Europe and signs of the market slowing in Asia.
