Australia: Prince of Wales supports wool campaign

12/11/2012
His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales visited a farm and watched a fashion parade in Australia as part of a international campaign to promote wool.

The Prince is patron of the Campaign for Wool - an initiative launched in 2008 to help boost the wool trade, which was experiencing a drop in demand and falling prices.

On a sheep farm in Tasmania, he met woolgrowers, helped muster sheep and watched the shearing of fine wool Merinos. In Sydney, five Australian designers showcased their designs made with wool.

Peter Ackroyd, CEO of  campaign, said: “Since its inception, The Campaign for Wool has captured the imagination of the fashion and design industries and the public. With the support of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, it has been instrumental in driving a new demand and I’m delighted to see its continued growth.”

The campaign is being celebrated in over a dozen countries with hundreds of retailers and brands taking part.
