Icebreaker expands in North America

New Zealand merino wool apparel company Icebreaker is opening a store in Seattle this week, as it continues to expand its presence in North America, catering to the growing demand for outdoor gear as temperatures drop.

“Seattleites love the outdoors and have a great appreciation for nature and natural products, so this area is the perfect location for our newest TouchLab [store],” said Jeremy Moon, Icebreaker’s founder and CEO. “Their active lifestyle and early adopter culture makes them our ideal customer, and they will especially appreciate merino wool’s ‘warm when wet’ properties.”

Sustainably produced Icebreaker merino regulates body temperature, is breathable to prevent clamminess, and protects wearers from the sun.

Icebreaker has eight other North American stores, with a further two due scheduled to open before next March.

The Wellington-headquartered company specialises in merino clothing for the outdoors, technical sports and lifestyle and is sold in more than 3,000 stores in 44 countries.
