Mexico and China fail to resolve textile dispute

Talks to overcome a dispute between Mexico and China over textile taxes have failed to find a solution, promoting Mexico to ask the World Trade Organisation (WTO) to settle the matter.

A spokesman for Mexico’s Ministry of Economy said trade officials from both countries had met but that they could not come to an agreement.

The counties are the biggest exporters of textiles into the US, and Mexico claims the Chinese government is giving its companies an unfair advantage by waving taxes.

In October, Mexico filed a complaint with the WTO, starting the clock on a 60-day deadline for a bilateral deal under WTO rules.
