Internationalisation and technical textiles will aid growth, says ACIMIT

Technical and innovative textiles have been singled out by the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers (ACIMIT) as an area with great potential next year.

It will also place a greater influence on internationalisation, with technology symposiums, training courses and other promotional initiatives planned for key markets in 2013.

The strategy will involve Bangladesh, China, Ethiopia, Germany, India, Indonesia, Mongolia, South Africa, Turkey and Vietnam.

“We intend to provide continuity to the work undertaken over many years in consolidated global textile machinery markets such as China and India,” said ACIMIT president Sandro Salmoiraghi. “We also want to support machinery manufacturers in emerging textile markets - Bangladesh and Vietnam, for instance - and in sectors with high potential, such as technical and innovative textiles.”

The association will also focus on its sustainable technologies project through a symposium in Bangladesh, promoting its work in the country and in India.

“The current economic difficulties hinder the possibilities of obtaining public financing,” added Mr Salmoiraghi. “In spite of this, ACIMIT has been working with the Italian Ministry of Economic Development and the Italian Trade Commission to promote the internationalisation of Italian businesses abroad, providing a promotional plan that is suited to the needs of a sector such as ours, for which over 80% of the total turnover comes from foreign markets.”

Thirty new companies were brought under the ACIMIT banner at a recent meeting of the board. “During tough times such as these, the collective work of our association represents a first step in acting together as a group; there’s no need to feel alone in forging ahead and promoting one’s business ventures,” added Mr Salmoiraghi.
