Woolmark names prestigious judging panel

Designers Donatella Versace and Diane von Furstenberg have been named as judges of the International Woolmark Prize, an award for excellence in design using wool and whose recipients have included Karl Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent.

The award was established in 1953 and will be presented during London Fashion Week in February.

Victoria Beckham; Tim Blanks, editor-at-large at style.com; editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia Franca Sozzani; and Paula Reed, creative director at retailer Harvey Nichols, are also on the judging panel.

“Since the regional awards in July, the International Woolmark Prize has gained extraordinary momentum and support, highlighted by the announcement of the most important names in the industry on the final judging panel,” said Stuart McCullough, CEO of Australian Wool Innovation.

The finalists, who have emerged from 70 applicants nominated by industry figures in their respective regions, are: Sophie Theallet from the US, Christian Wijnants from Europe (Belgium), Ban Xiao Xiu from China, Dion Lee from Australia, DRESSEDUNDRESSED from Japan and Pankaj and Nidhi from India.

The prize is $105,000 and placement of the winning collection in boutiques around the globe including Bergdorf Goodman in the US, Harvey Nichols in the UK, 10 Corso Como in Italy, Joyce in China, Eickoff in Germany and David Jones in Australia.
