One-child policy creates opportunities

Camkids Group is the second largest manufacturer and distributor of children’s outdoor clothing, footwear and equipment in China behind US giant Nike, and owes much of its success to the country’s one-child policy. Parents and grandparents focus their money and attention on children, which in turn has boosted its sales, it said.
A boom in outdoor sports and increasing disposable incomes in China have also helped the company grow. It employs more than 1,000 staff and supplies to over 1,000 outlets across China.
The child and teenage sector in the country is worth around £1.1 billion and is forecast to grow at a rate of 17% each year between 2012 and 2016.
