US company transfers sleeping bag know-how to jackets

“We’re fired up to make the jump into down jackets because we know how well the technology works in our down sleeping bag line,” said Bill Gamber, Big Agnes founder and president. “What’s unique about these jackets is the water repellent down and the Insotect Flow vertical baffles, which facilitate heat distribution and retention.”
The company says the down reduces insulation clumping and retains warmth in wet conditions. It uses a proprietary nanotechnology coating that transforms down into a water repellent, anti-microbial and anti-bacterial insulation material. It repels water while maintaining loft, insulation value and breathability.
The vertical thermal chambers (VTCs) distribute heat more uniformly than to side-to-side horizontal baffles, it adds. FlowGates are incorporated throughout the length of the VTCs to prevent the insulation from migrating to the bottom of the jacket. This maintains uniform insulation distribution and eliminates cold spots.
The hoodless Hole in the Wall DownTek jacket and hooded Shovelhead DownTek jacket will be available in men’s and women’s models and will be on show at the event from January 23 to 26, 2013.
