India to add 15m textile jobs by 2017

The government of India has cemented plans to boost its textile workforce by 15.8 million by the end of 2017.

In March 2011, 105 million were employed in the industry but the government is targeting 121 million at the end of its ‘12th five-year plan’, according to local reports.

The textile industry is the second largest employer in the country after agriculture.
