There was good news for high-end swimwear and golf brands in the 2013 edition of the Luxury Consumer Survey, recently published by Shanghai-based research consultancy the Hurun Research Institute. The survey, now in its ninth year, shows the lifestyle and brand preferences of China’s wealthy consumers.

Individuals across China with a personal wealth of at least RMB 10 million (equivalent to $1.6 million) took part in the survey. Among them were 69 super-rich individuals with wealth of RMB 100 million ($16 million).

The survey asked which sports respondents like to take part in. Swimming is the hobby of choice according to the results, beating golf to top spot. Both swimming and golf have taken the top two sports in recent years. However, Hurun Research said horse riding was up to fifth and is the fastest rising sporting pursuit among China’s wealthy.
