Outdoor Retailer to remain in Salt Lake City

Outdoor Retailer is to remain in Salt Lake City until at least the end of 2016, following 18 months of debate surrounding whether the venue could accommodate the rapidly growing trade show.

Show director Kenji Haroutunian explained: "The industry has a collective affection for this town; the shared outdoor passions, cost efficiency of doing business and the partnership of regional and state officials have all contributed to the vibrancy and success of the show."

Organisers raised concerns with city officials about accommodation provision and infrastructure for the shows, and consulted 3,000 tradeshow stakeholders.

The longer-term growth trajectory and 'needs list' of the show remain a discussion between the outdoor industry and venues throughout the country. In the short term, the Summer Market show will use an expanded outdoor structure space, adjacent to the convention centre.

In the last four years, the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market show has seen a 13% growth in attendance and there has been an 11% increase at the Winter Market show.

Mr Haroutunian added: "We understand everyone is anxious for a longer-term decision, but making sure the show has a home that fits the needs of the industry is hugely important. The extension period will help us make sure we get it right."

The extension comes with the support of the Outdoor Industry Association, which collected feedback from its members.
