Woolrich commits to bringing more manufacturing back to the US

However, he went on to point out that Woolrich has been manufacturing in the US since its foundation in 1830 and is proud to operate “the oldest continually running mill in America”, in the town of Woolrich, Pennsylvania.
“It’s true that we don’t make 100% of our products in the US as we once did,” Mr Brayton went on to say. “As the global economy grew and matured over the last 20 years, many core mill customers took their woollen business overseas. To remain relevant, competitive and solvent, we made the same difficult choice.
“In today’s world, the hard reality is that making things here is hard to do. But like our customers who embrace adventure every day, Woolrich is preparing to tackle a new challenge, bringing manufacturing back to Pennsylvania, one step at a time.”
He explained that the company has set itself three “significant domestic manufacturing goals” for its mill, its customers, and its brand.
It will aim to increase the amount of wool produced in its mill by 50% in 2013. Secondly, it will introduce a 100% US-made apparel collection in its autumn 2013 range. And, for the third goal, it will work to make sure that by 2015 more than 50% of garments offered by Woolrich include US-spun wool.
He appealed for support from customers to be able to meet these milestones.
