Jack Wolfskin ahead of schedule on PFOA commitment

The company has said it will eliminate from its supply chain the chemicals that can result in PFOA forming on clothes with water- and stain-resistant finishes in time for its autumn-winter 2013-2014 collection. In previous announcements, it said it expected to reach this goal at the end of 2014.
Chief operating officer, Christian Brandt, said Jack Wolfskin had gone to great lengths to being producing water-repellent equipment without PFOA ahead of schedule, adding that the spring-summer 2013 collection will also be largely PFOA-free; 75% of clothes in the first collection of this year have treatments that the company believes will not lead to the formation of PFOA.
“Our next goal is to be able to offer fluorocarbon-free alternatives and, in the long term, to stop using fluorine-based chemicals altogether, even though this requires a comprehensive overhaul of our entire production chain,” Mr Brandt added.
