Nearly 70% of visitors travelled from outside of Germany, with the majority from Italy, Austria, Switzerland, France and the UK.
Klaus Dittrich, CEO of Messe München, which organises the fair, said: “We experienced the strongest increase from Europe and Asia. We were extremely pleased that Spain has rejoined the list of winners and made the jump back into the top 10 countries.”
On the exhibitor side, 2,481 exhibitors from 52 countries attended this year, compared with 2,344 last year. The exhibit space increased by 430 square metres to 103,220 square metres.
Of visitors surveyed, three quarters rated the event as as ‘excellent to very good’, with the remaining quarter saying it was ‘good’.
A new service also received positive feedback: the online platform ISPO Connect, simplifying contacts and networking between exhibitors and visitors ahead of the show, received a very good to good rating from 89% of those polled. Around 93% rated the ISPO Award very good to good, and the new education platform ISPO Academy received a very good to good rating from 86% of visitors.
Mr Dittrich said: “Our goal is strong further development as a year-round full-service provider for the sports industry, to network expertise from all over the world throughout the year, and actively endorse developments and trends in the sports business.”
Jørgen Jørgensen, managing director of outdoor brand Norrøna, said: “This year’s ISPO has been very busy, full up with sales meetings, and a very well organised trade show.”
Peter Knoll, general manager for Germany and Austria at surfbrand Quiksilver, said: “This was the best ISPO Munich I’ve experienced in 17 years. We had more customers than ever and were just about overwhelmed.”
ISPO Munich ran from February 3 to 6; next year it will take place at the end of January.
