Newlife targets sportswear with seamless Santoni jacket

Italian knitting machine manufacturer Santoni has produced a seamless jacket made with Newlife, a system of recycled polyester yarns obtained from plastic bottles.

Newlife says this, and its recent application in a line by outdoor brand Lafuma, represents the beginning of a road of Newlife being incorporated into sports and outdoor wear.

“We have ranges in women’s and menswear, as well as swimwear, but it was important for us to launch in sportswear because it’s a very big market,” said Stefano Cochis, director of Saluzzo Yarns, the company that owns Newlife. “Newlife was originally made for fashion, but now there is a visibility in the market, and an awareness of it. People are recognising it is innovate and traceable; it’s about being able to make beautiful fabrics.”

The Santoni jacket has been knitted on the revamped MEC-MOR CMP machine, which enables the entire article to be knitted in 20 minutes.

”We will continue to develop yarns with a high-tech content, targeting the technical clothing sectors with the highest growth potential in the European market,” added Mr Cochis.
