2012 US synthetic fibre apparel imports worth almost $40 billion

New figures from the US Department of Commerce show that in the course of 2012, sports brands and manufacturers across the country exported athletic apparel and equipment with a value of $709 million. The figure represents an increase of a little over 2.1% on the sports apparel and gear revenues achieved by the US in 2011.

The department gave no specific entry for imports into the US of sports clothing, but said imports of apparel made from synthetic fibres had a value for the year of almost $39.4 billion, an increase on the previous year of 6.5%.

In a separate entry, imports of all types of footwear were shown to have a value for 2012 of $19.1 billion, up by 4.2% on the 2011 figure of $18.3 billion. The department gave no figure for exports of footwear from the US.
