Hurley wins ‘innovative’ boardshorts award

15/02/2013
Sportswear brand Hurley has won the Boardshort of the Year award at the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association awards, held in the US and voted for by 800 industry professionals.

‘Phantom Fuse’ was described as the lightest boardshort in the industry and features a laser-cut, two-layer second-skin waistband.

The material was designed for Olympic swimmers, and Hurley's parent company Nike helped bring the idea to the US-based surf company.

"We wanted to make boardshorts better, and change the game with that material. Since then, it's been a process of refining with the goal of having it be like a second skin," said Hurley's senior vice-president of marketing, Evan Slater.

It is the fifth year that Hurley has been awarded the most innovative boardshort award.
