Première Vision numbers up despite timing of show

More than 58,000 visitors and 1,742 exhibitors congregated in Paris from February 12 to 14, which “demonstrated the industry’s strength and vitality”.
All six Première Vision Pluriel shows saw an overall rise in figures.“The growth is both reassuring and a harbinger of optimism for an international market that remains fragile and uneven,” said organisers.
Around 73% of visitors were from outside France, although Chinese visitors declined 23%. The timing of Carnival meant there were 14% fewer from Brazil and the scheduling of New York Fashion Week was also thought to have impacted numbers.
However, there was an increase in attendance from Japan (10%), the US (14%) and India (23%). Italian visitors rose 11.2%, Spanish 9.7%, and attendees from Eastern Europe and Russia rose 10%.
“Faced with the global economic crisis of recent years, the textile sector had been taking fewer risks. This season, with a lack of stock and thus products to propose, the atmosphere was focused on business,” added organisers.
