“Within the global outlook for the textile and apparel industry, Myanmar is a country experiencing strong growth,” it said. “The textile sector, and the garment segment especially, is currently attracting the attention of many Western brands as a base for their manufacturing operations, providing a strong competitive advantage and very low production costs."
ACIMIT’s president Sandro Salmoiraghi said: “As has already occurred in other countries in the area, the shift in production for many established global brands and important manufacturers in the industry coincides with a qualitative leap in the technological level of the local textile and garment sector.
"Although sales of Italian machinery in Myanmar are not yet significant, our attendance at the trade fair aims to establish a bridge from which to enhance the penetration of Italian technology in the local market.”
The show will be held from between 15 - 18 March in Yangon.
ACIMIT represents an industrial sector comprising around 300 companies (employing roughly 12,400 people) and producing machinery for an overall value of €2.7 billion per year, with exports amounting to 80% of total sales.
