US gymnasts to be clothed by Under Armour

US-based sportswear company Under Armour has signed an eight-year contract to supply the country’s gymnastics team and staff with performance apparel, footwear and accessories in its first sponsorship of a summer Olympic sport.

Under Armour will collaborate with GK Elite Sportswear to create the competition apparel for men's and women's gymnastics, trampoline and tumbling. GK Elite has been the exclusive manufacturer of competitive gymnastics apparel for the team since 2000.

Steve Penny, president of USA Gymnastics, said: "The plans we have for our partnership have the potential to elevate both of our brands in the US and on the international stage."

Athletes and coaches will use the brand’s latest innovation, Armour39, which is a digital performance monitoring system that measures an athlete's heart rate, calories burned, workout intensity and effort.
