China: Nike to clear inventory through raft of new factory stores
Sportswear group Nike is planning to open between 40 and 50 factory stores in China this year to clear massive backlog of inventory, according to local reports.
Each factory outlet will cover an area of over 500 m2 will sell shoes at 30% to 40% of the price, reported the National Business Daily.
High inventories become a problem for both domestic and international sportswear brands over the past year. Li Ning in December announced a $224 million plan to support inventory clearance, inventory buyback and sales network rationalisation.
