Owners of textile mills in Pakistan have closed down at least 150,000 power looms in protest against a new 2% sales tax that the government has imposed on the textile industry.

One textile industry leader,Shakeel Ansari, told local media that the industry was in no position to bear the extra expense because raw material and energy costs are already too high.
