Oeko-Tex to present Sustainability Award

15/03/2013
Zurich-based international environmental standards association Oeko-Tex will honour companies in the global textile supply chain that have shown “special commitment to the issue of sustainability” at a new Sustainability Award event, which it will hold for the first time on June 12, 2013, in Frankfurt, to coincide with the TechTextil exhibition.

The award presentation will also mark the official start of Oeko-Tex’s new certification, called ‘Sustainable Textile Production (STeP)’, which will replace its Standard 1000.

The Sustainability Award involves no prize money but is an initaitive the association began last year on the occasion of its twentieth anniversary.

There will be five categories: environmental management, quality management, social responsibility, safety management and product innovation. From nominations received between March 2012 and March 2013, Oeko-Tex initially selected two ‘Companies of the Month’ each month. From the group of ‘Companies of the Month’, three companies have now been nominated for the Sustainability Award in each category.
