French firm develops electromagnetic wave-blocking material
21/03/2013
It took three years to develop at its research lab, based in Limoges, and the process involved researchers from maths, optics, electromagnetism and computer science backgrounds, reported French newspaper Le Monde.
Benjamin Anin, the company’s head of research and development, said: "So far this kind of material has very specific to certain professions. Yet today, with the transition to 4G, the explosion of wireless waves and greater public awareness around the use of smartphones, launching this range was fully justified.”
The technique involves impregnating a jacket with a combination of nickel, stainless steel, aluminum and faux gold. The device is undetectable to the eye and is said to block up to 90% of electromagnetic waves.
"The target customers are business people using their mobile phones every day," said Gilles Attaf, CEO of Smuggler.
This collection will be available in France in the company’s spring-summer 2013 range.
